Hi, we are Leny and Sam, and in this post we want to tell you what we do and a little bit about how we do it.
Mexicanartes is about dressing with meaning. We create timeless garments with slow, limited production, fused with Mexican textile art.
Each garment has a special and unique value and meaning. We design them, they are made and crafted by women from Jalisco, some are woven on looms and others are hand-embroidered by artisans from Oaxaca.
Here we share with you the process of making on a pedal loom and a backstrap loom.
TREAD LOOM
The pedal loom is based on a wooden structure on which, with the movement of the hands and feet, each of the fabrics, mainly made of cotton and wool, are spun.
Waist Loom
The backstrap loom is a tool that is tied at one end to a support base, and the other end is held at the waist with a loom handle. It consists of a series of wooden poles used to achieve the width of the fabric and to weave the threads.
The design, the stitches, the fabrics, the construction, and everything behind it all give meaning to each Mexicanartes garment.
