At Mexicanartes we love everything that is handmade, because it is made to last forever.
At Mexicanartes, we love to tell stories through our garments. Every thread, every embroidery, and every color reflects the cultural richness of our Mexican roots. We don't just make clothes: we bring to life ancestral traditions passed down from generation to generation, capturing the soul of the artisans in each piece. In this blog, we want to share those stories and connect with you from the depths of our identity.
Wearing Mexicanartes also means carrying a part of Mexico with you, embracing its colors, textures, and traditions; textiles and embroidery represent our country in the best way possible. Among all the states that preserve this living heritage, Oaxaca stands out as a true epicenter of creativity in this area.
The Zapotecs, Mixtecs, Mazatecs, and other Oaxacan peoples have developed unique styles, where each pattern, symbol, and color holds a special meaning. In their weavings, we can read ancestral mythologies, agricultural cycles, and respect for nature.
Oaxacan artisans work with techniques such as the backstrap loom and the pedal loom, methods dating back to pre-Hispanic and colonial times, respectively. To create their pieces, they use natural fibers such as native cotton, sheep wool, and, in some areas, Creole silk threads.
Natural dyes are an essential part of the process. Purple snail, cochineal, and indigo produce a range of vibrant, timeless colors. These deeply sustainable practices connect the artisan directly with their environment.
At Mexicanartes, from our beginnings to the present, we proudly work with seven artisan families from three regions of Oaxaca: San Antonino and Jalapa de Diaz, distinguished by their beautiful hand embroidery, and the Central Valleys of Oaxaca, who lovingly and dedicatedly craft everything made on a pedal loom. We develop a fair, equitable, and transparent business relationship with them, thus promoting ethical fashion.
Each piece that leaves these workshops is unique and unrepeatable, reflecting the soul of its creator. Every time we purchase a handmade textile, we don't just carry a garment with us: we carry a story, a territory, and the heartbeat of a people who endure and create beauty with every stitch.
